This afternoon we took a walk over to the LeMay Museum (about a mile from the marina). We've driven past this cool building countless times on the way to and from Seattle. It's just off of I-5 next to the Tacoma Dome, and is definitely worth a visit. The LeMay collection earned a Guinness Book world record of over 3,500 vehicles in the mid-‘90s, and the museum itself houses around 350 cars of all kinds (with rotating exhibits). It's nicely done, and we enjoyed the floor-by-floor stroll through time.
Loving the fonts and hood ornaments:
Cute little 1951 Nash Rambler:
Nice Caddy:
Beautiful 1948 MG TC just like my mom used to have:
There's a pretty deluxe slot car track you can play for three bucks:
Great-looking BMW:
Not only cars, but motorcycles:
And scooters!
This 1958 Triumph TR3A was one of my favorites:
View back to the marina (we could actually see our boat from here!)
Now you are anchored in one of my favorite harbors! Sure, this isn’t much to “do” but the peaceful surroundings are soothing. If you anchor a bit farther north closer to the bay entrance near the marked channel, the view of Mt Rainier at sunset is spectacular. The narrow tree lined banks visually flank the mountain with its stupendous alpenglow. Ooops, rain there, sun here in Costa Rica. As for the ferry, what a mind-blowing sight. Had no foreknowledge of it when i motored into the inner bay, came around the corner and Bam! My fertile, somewhat over-heated imagination ran rampant. Hijacked ? A disaster? A ferry terminal unknown to me? Impossible! The real story about that boat is available online if you are curious. Sort of A Puget Sound version of the movie Fitzcarraldo. Onward!
Re: the ferry, as a matter of fact I WAS curious…see this morning’s new blog post ALL about the ferry. What an interesting history!
No Mt. Rainier view today, but it’s still beautiful and looks like the clouds may be burning off a smidge, so we’ll see what we get. Hope you’re enjoying your trip to Costa Rica! We were there for our honeymoon…in 1997!
