See? It's not all wine and bike rides around here. š
It's been worse though: Breakfast in the Candlestick Compound
And OMG in looking for that blog post about the Candlestick Compound, I found this, and sat here laughing for a good 5 minutes: The Screaming Fifth Wheel Next Door
I used to be meaner (and funnier). I need to step it up.
Are you at Coyote Valley?? (My in-laws were there just a few months ago, and we visited. We live near SJ.)
We’re going to spend a week or so in Oregon this summer, and figured you’d be good ones to ask – if you had 3 days to spend at any one campground near the beach, which would you pick? There are so many options that I’m totally overwhelmed. We do have reservations at Beverly Beach, but I’m not entirely sold on it. Sea Perch? After the coast, our plan is Silver Falls for 3 days, and then Crater Lake before we head home.
I’m not sure I’ve ever commented before, but we have a 30′ FC bunkhouse, and have been reading your blog for years. So, hi!
It’s about time you guys had a reality check .
Oh we have ’em all the time…we just don’t post about them because they aren’t as pretty. š (Actually, for the most part we try to stay in pretty places…the state parks are usually great. It’s really only when we have to be in SF of SJ for work that the choices are pretty limited.
We are headed for the Florida Panhandle tomorrow for a month at FL State Parks … reefer is stocked with martini olives .. woohoo š
LOVE the Florida Panhandle (and all that white sand)!! Sounds like you’re prepared well…have a great time! We’re looking forward to getting back down there one of these days. Cheers!
Hi Sarah! Yes, we are at Coyote Valley!
I’m thinking about your question. Without knowing you or more about what you want (you’re right, there are so many great options on the coast!), I’ll give you my picks.
(1) We’d recommend Bullards Beach S.P. because it’s close to Bandon and we love Bandon (best fish & chips, a good fish taco place next door, fresh seafood, shops, cute waterfront, etc.). Bullards has a great beach and old lighthouse and good trails.
(2) More north is Sea Perch near Yachats and it’s great because it’s right on the beach if you get a waterfront spot. They’re super nice there, too. Yachats is cute…good tidepooling at Strawberry Hill up the coast a bit, and just gorgeous scenery around there. Not too far is the Sealion Caves, too…which is cool, and the Heceta Head lighthouse (very scenic).
(3) More North we like Nehalem Bay State Park, in Manzanita. Manzanita is a great little town, good grocery store, cute cafes, really nice beach. The beach is just over a dune or two from the campground and you can hear the ocean most of the time.
Beverly Beach is good too. There’s a trail to the beach, and hiking trails along the creek if I remember right. It’s close to Newport (tons to do there so that’s a plus). The aquarium is cool…the waterfront/fishing/marina area is nice as well…so you can’t go wrong with any of these, really.
Did I help or just confuse the issue?? š
The issue was already quite confused, so you helped, thank you! We have 2 kids, so tidepooling etc will be popular. Now to see if we can still get reservations at any of these…
Saw the bike ride post – good thing you got back before the rain! We nearly floated away on the freeway this afternoon.
Tidepooling when we were at Sea Perch last May was great, but a few weeks ago we hardly saw anything. Maybe it was a high low tide? Also Sea Lion Caves (along with the tidepooling) at Sea Perch. I bet the kids would also love the aquarium (if you stayed at Beverly Beach, but there’s RV parking there if you stop on the way through). And if you’re driving through Bandon anyway to get to wherever you stay, I’d highly recommend stopping at the Bandon Fish Market (there’s RV parking at the end of the road into the town…it’s a big dirt lot and just a short walk to the waterfront). Dangit, now I’m hungry. š
Glad I helped!
Why don’t my iphone pictures look that good?? Did you process them?? Great stuff, as usual.
I processed them a little bit, but not much actually. It’s just THIS pretty in Oregon. š
