We took a lunch break yesterday and drove over to Gruene (pronounced "Green") for some grub and a little exploring. We had a salad wrap at the Gruene Door (veggies! yay!) and then drove around Gruene and New Braunfels.
I really like Gruene.
Floating down the river in innertubes is super fun in the summer. (However, since I just saw a snake swimming on the edge of the river right outside the Airstream window this morning, I don't think I'll be in the river in anything that any of my limbs hang through into the water from here on.) 🙂
Gruene Hall, Texas' oldest dance hall:
The Gruene Mansion Inn (and bed and breakfast):
There are tons of little shops (many with cute –albeit punny — names, like "Gruene With Envy") lining the the street. (Mom, you'd love this place! Minus the puns of course.)
The Guadalupe River:
We saw this guy pulling his barbeque trailer as we headed over to New Braunfels, and as we passed the Comal County Fairgrounds a few minutes later, we noticed that Saturday is the BBQ Cookoff at the Comal County Fair. Guess where we're going for lunch?
